What is HTML?Edit
HTML is the language used to create webpages. In this tutorial we will cover the very basics of HTML. At the end, you should be able to create a very simple HTML document.
The Basics of HTMLEdit
First of all, open a text editor such as Notepad. Copy the following code:
<!DOCTYPE html> <html> <head> <title></title> </head> <body> </body> </html>
What does this all mean? We will start with the <!DOCTYPE html>. This declares that the page is HTML, and not XML etc. The next bit, <head> is called a tag. All HTML documents consist of nuermous tags such as <head>. <head> is where you put all the information about the page (title, favicion etc). The <body> tag is where all the actual information goes. All of your paragrapghs, headings and pictures go here.
If you save your document and open it in your browser it will not have any text in it. Time to fix that!
Lets add a header! Header tags are: <h1>(the biggest),<h2>,<h3>,<h4>,<h5>and the smallest,<h6>(in WikiText these are defined by = signs). But you page still only has a header! We need the <p> tag to add a paragraph! Your page still looks pretty bland. The <b> tag makes text bold. The <i> tag makes text italic. Congrats, you have finished the first tutorial.
